This video was just about as simply made as it gets. I grabbed a Sony a7 with a wide angle converter lens I found and just started gathering clips. The goal was to show the beauty all around us everyday that we miss out on when we aren't feeling like our true selves. Too often, the sounds, colors, air, and everything else around us goes unnoticed. That's why the last line in the video rings so true: "out of all the things to worry about, weight-loss shouldn't be one of them."

In a world where people are trying to fabricate stories and make everything look as cinematic as possible, they miss one thing: character. I think stories are only as good as they are told. Growing up watching western movies and Bruce Brown films, I went into this video with something else in mind: how can I make the viewer feel like a fly on the wall?
So instead of your classic YouTube vlog style video, I narrated over a bunch of footage I got of this race. For lens choice, I chose to go anamorphic with a wide lens converter. I wanted a look that no one would probably choose to film a dirt bike race with.
The comments I got later were exactly what I was going for. Things like Bruce Brown, old western movie, and "what was that lens?"

LOSING 77 LBS.
We flew out to Fort Wayne, Indiana to capture one of the coolest stories I've heard in quite a long time. Michelle had grown up her whole life on horseback until she eventually weighed too much to be on a horse. Her dream was crushed until she was finally able to lose 77 lbs and get back on the horse.

Blake is a super ambitious San Clemente native with huge goals in mind. He cares deeply about his craft and more importantly, wants to have a stellar reputation as a great brand. I think that's why he slaps his own name across his boards. Quality and longevity come first with these boards. Blake truly goes above and beyond and I wanted to capture his promise to his customers more than anything. In short, I feel like most of what Blake is selling is trust. Trust that he made you a board worth every penny.

Baja is zero walk in the park. It is so hands on and non stop, the entire time you're down there. I've never spent so much time trying to clean the silt from my gear!
For this video, I wanted to showcase the new and improved Sherco brand (out of Nimes, France) while also bringing the focus back to their legendary beginnings. A lot of research went into outlining this story and scripting it out into a memorable story.
From legendary roots to some flashy new bikes, I wanted to keep the OG vintage vibe while keeping a splash of modern flare to it :)
